I’m going to, hopefully, make up a page soon with like a FAQ and commission info and that sort of stuff, so
If there’s anything you think I should include or there’s something that you would or want to ask me, please let me know so I can make sure it’s in there!
'Cause a heart that hurts, is a heart that works. x
edit: Looking through supplies I have stashed away I found a different sketchbook which I preferred to the one I began this project in so, uh, I redrew the portrait. Interesting to see the comparison.. there are aspects of both that I like and dislike.
It’s that time again! The Dallas DSG has launched the fundraising site for this year’s Buddy Walk. Team Levi has an overall goal of $25,000 for this year’s walk and the Dallas WOL group has set a fundraising goal of $5000 as a part of Team Levi, any little bit can help with that goal.
» You can donate to the WOL group page here. «
Now, I know what you’re all thinking… How adorable is that artwork (by the amazingly talented Angie) up there and how can I get my hands on some swag featuring the adorable chibi!Jensen?? Have no fear, we’re currently working on some additional fundraising efforts (with all proceeds going directly to Team Levi) by selling some buttons, stickers, and possibly t-shirts featuring the art and I’ll update when those links are available. We’ll also have a table at DallasCon this year, come by and see us! :D
Signal boost please and thank you! Reblog the heck out of this, please!
Even if you can’t donate, a signal boost would still be much appreciated. So please, reblog!
Water, Earth, Fire, Air… Woo Avatar fanart! (full view, they look better)
I kinda really want to, like, do watercolour versions of these and sell them as limited prints at a con or something… But for now, quick 1am sketches shall have to do. And I hope you like!
(Had this on repeat for some great background music, I’m kinda obsessed.)
I needed a break from commissions so resorted to sketching a thingy of myself… in my green wig (‘tis part of my Beetlejuice cosplay).
I should doodle like this more often. :/
Commission for brightshiningcastiel :)
2014!Castiel from Supernatural’s ‘The End’ episode.
You can also buy this cute lil’ fella as a sticker from my redbubble here!
So not only did I have the pleasure of simply meeting the awesome rufiozuko on the weekend, because I was volunteering at the con I was also fortunate enough to sit by his side throughout the autograph sessions. My team leader gave me the job of handling money and writing down fans’ names so they could get personalised autographs.
I’ve volunteered at a number of conventions in the past and done this before, but I’ve never had as much fun as I had in Dante’s company. Words can’t describe how awesome he is! So genuine, kind, enthusiastic, funny, loves what he does and truly loves and appreciates his fans. The way he interacted with them warmed my heart. He had me constantly smiling or laughing the whole time.
Dante, if you see this (I know I’ve already told you, but) THANK YOU! You were the highlight of the convention for so many people, including myself. I feel really blessed to have gotten to spend that time with you. You kept telling fans you felt lucky, but truth is so did we. I hope there’ll be an opportunity for our paths to cross again in the future. Until then, take care. And many thanks for the kind words about my art. :)
(Shout out to all the amazing cosplay and fanart I got to see, too!)
Finished this just in time, phew.
(Posted from my queue because I’m currently at the con!)
Someone asked me to talk about color, but since I studied medieval literature in school instead of art, I kind of suck at talking about color.
But I can talk about observing colors and learning how to discern colors in order to see their differences.
Here is an exercise I devised…
First, look at this painting I made of Castiel who is very pretty:
Things we know:
- Castiel has blue eyes and pink lips and a peachy skintone.
- Castiel is wearing a white shirt with a dark blue tie.
I’ve labeled the same drawing with what we know:
Do they look convincing?
They probably do. You believe he’s wearing a white shirt. You believe his lips are pink. And so on.
Now, here are those labeled colors pulled out of context:
Notice how there is no blue, pink, white, or dark blue anywhere. And the skin color isn’t peachy at all. It looks like burnt orange.
Study the labeled drawing again. This time, try to see each color as it relates to the one next to it:
I didn’t use blue, white, pink, dark blue, or peach anywhere in this drawing. But somehow, the colors still look correct. Photographic, even.
How did I do it?
Things to consider:
- We know he’s wearing a white shirt. But I used dark yellow to paint it. How can we still believe it’s a white shirt?
- We know his eyes are blue, but I used dark green to paint his eyes. How can we still believe his eyes are blue?
By focusing on the differences between the colors instead of what I thought the colors were supposed to be, I was able to convey colors that weren’t really there at all.
That’s how you paint blue without using blue.
